inside on a day like today? i'm outraged - john (austin,tx)
Meryll is Andrew Hernandez, Kyle Bradshaw, and Art Silva. The three make up a fantastic and extremely underrated band from Austin, TX who have toured across 20 states and recorded relentlessly for 4 years now.

The dense and yet poppy songs stack organs on top of acoustic guitars, brushed drums on top of bass, and earnest vocals on top of computer loops to create an altogether distinctive band. Lyrically, Meryll has a gift allowing the group to construct personal and secret relationships with the listener. They are informal and forthcoming without crossing the all too dangerous “emo” line.
Austin folk - catch Meryll at the Parish with the Lovely Sparrows this Thursday, tomorrow night, January 25th!

The recording techniques are varied with great skill. Stopping My Signs begins as if sung from the other end a sad hallway, and once the song gets onto full swing, that before empty hallway singing has a dreamlike fantasy edge to it. Sometimes taking lessons from the once great Appleseed Cast and Jebidiah, the group really doesn’t have a black and white comparison that can be drawn. In To Touch the simplest guitar and doubling vocals are quickly left in the dust by drum machines and a full assortment of guitar layers. The song literally invites you to come over and sit down on the couch with the central character for simple contact. The build here from start to finish is perhaps their best.

Esotype Records is a wonderful art rock label from just outside of Houston Texas. The label is also the home to Waco’s Ethan Durrellel. The band and the record label are surely very excited about the attention Meryll has been getting from Japan. A Japanese record label re-released their debut full length You’ve Got Cousins and word is it has been met with great success. We wish the band tons of luck in Texas and abroad.
