the silent years - john (austin,tx)

There are a lot of mediocre indie rock bands out there that you are supposed to be excited about. It’s hard to keep up with all the clever named bands from Brooklyn and Montreal that are set up to take the next big thing crown away from whoever it is these days… I can’t keep up. I know what I like, and although yes, clever names can take you far in life; it boils down to accessibility and talent.
The Silent Years are notable in both regards. They evoke a Thom Yorke/ Jeff Buckley tone that is similar to that of Austin exports What Made Milwaukee Famous. The Silent Years are supposedly great live and I am bummed that there appear to be no upcoming Texas dates… maybe one day I can marvel at the melodic motor city rockers and do a factual ‘compare and contrast’ between them and WMMF.
The rocking of track “This Town” is pretty unbelievably fantastic. The melodies throughout the whole album are remarkable and are only matched by the mega fun, homemade diorama artwork. Observe:

The Silent Years are truly hard to get enough of… See for yourselves with these MP3s!
