but, i could giveaway that- john (austin,tx)

Cari Palazzolo is a total rock star; a completely and utterly busy rock star. She has finalized the new release from Austin dream poppers Belaire (exploding, impacting release show at Emo’s on Friday July 6th y'all!) and she rocks clubs and house parties full of sweaty art schoolers solo under the moniker Fancy Feast . She has also already done one run of a musical with the Yellow Tape Construction Co late last year called We Are Normal Cha Cha Chaaa which I wrote about sadly missing here the shame still haunts me like that infamous "drifter incident" that my probation officer advised me not to talk about…

Well, now she has another project that has been incubating for a while and is finally seeing the light of day at the Off Center (2211-a Hidalgo St) entitled But, I Could Do That. All of the music in the dance performance will be original pieces from Cari, a girl who turns everything she touches into energetic, bouncy, lovable music. Just like how Jay-Z gets brought in to songs to make them banging and have street cred- this is what Cari (Cari-P?) does for shit. If you hear she’s involved in something – take notice.

So what is the show exactly?- No idea. But like I said- it’s going to be good. I heard Cari talk about it on Ear Candy on Saturday, and she said that it will feature reworked Belaire and Fancy Feast songs in addition to originals. Will it be avant-garde annoying ballet that exists to annoy you and it turns out that that is the art? Will it be like Gallagher and the audience will have to wear rain slickers to shield themselves from the watermelon debris? I don’t know! Jonathon Morgan, one of Yellow Tape's Artistic Directors, claims: "I've been sworn to secrecy on the show's content, but I hear rumors about aliens, Chinese phone tag, and Marky Mark."  Boom- I am sold.  The show’s title implies that after it is all said and done folks walking out to the parking lot will say- “but I could do that” and maybe that is just what we need: More Cari Palazzolos to make the world a better place full of more girls rapping over lo fi hip hop synth pop! And more independent theatres making unique, quirky and different things for us to enjoy!

But I Could Do That runs June 28, 29, and 30 at 8pm, and July 1 at 2pm at the Off Center. More information at yellowtape.org

Cari and Yellowtape were a great combo: energy, energy, energy!

I can't believe I didn't enter in time to win those tickets! Damn it!

Why does that one dude in the headband look cheeky while all the rest of them look sad?
