decembrists open for twbod- john (austin,tx)

The free Decembrists myspace “Secret” show at the Mohawk last night was a ton of fun. The Mohawk were affable hosts, Til We’re Blue or Destroy was extremely grateful for the Decembrists being their opening act (ha!), and DJ Markus with a K played some Pase Rock, which always makes me extremely happy.
It was wild to see a line of ironic t-shirts stretch around the Mohawk’s entrance, past Club DeVille and up 9th street. Usually sites like that are reserved for SXSW. The band specifically requested to play an intimate show so they declined the outside stage with the much larger capacity for the inside stage. Luckily for the other 700 or so people, the sound was piped outside for all to enjoy. The myspace secret show was a special thing to be a part of because a band like that- in the last three years or so- hasn’t played a venue where fans can belt out requests and have them met with a smile. At one point Colin Meloy took a request from a guy with his face pressed against the pane glass window from outside. It was clear that the group was thrilled to be playing a different type of show for hardcore fans.
The last song (The Mariner's Revenge Song) was played after a literary conga line of sorts trekked from the inside stage to the middle of the crowd outside where the band formed in the middle (ala the Arcade Fire playing Wake Up)and had complete and utter vocal support from Austin’s sailor-rock aficionados opposed to a PA.
Til We’re Blue or Destroy and Markus with a K did what they do best and impressed be hell out of me as always. It’s a downright dirty shame that all the myspacers didn’t stick around to have their horizons broadened.

@chels I know what you mean, its hard to find good help these days. People now days just don't have the work ethic they used to have. I mean consider whoever wrote this post, they must have been working hard to write that good and it took a good bit of their time I am sure. I work with people who couldn't write like this if they tried, and getting them to try is hard enough as it is.
