hopscotch!- john

The Mothfight show was an amazing success. I went to sleep singing the hook from "Hopscotch" and woke up doing the same thing. The Mohawk was filled with nickelodeons, patent medicine drink specials and all sorts of peculiar curiosities. My only regret is that I didn’t get my phrenology reading from the amazing Museum of Natural & Artificial Ephemerata!
Openers The Noise Revival Orchestra Experience blew everyone away with their GIANT sound. All 11 formally dressed people on the stage melded into one genuine spectacle. Sure, they were a great surprise, but had nothing on the barbershop quartet that followed them! These 4 dudes had a blast playing to a crowd full of ironic glasses and skinny jeans because something tells me they usually do weddings and VFW halls. I was smiling the whole time.
Mothfight took the packed outside stage by storm with a wall of noise and eventual harmony and controlled choruses. The band members manipulated everything from samplers to the thinness of a Home Depot sawblade to make dark, frolicking music that officially made the collective crowd’s jaws drop. The percussiveness of front man Kevin Adickes guitar over the compositions of a true group of instrumentalists was a literary, musical and cinematic explosion. Think the special effect work of Georges Méliès and you have a good idea of what these guys are capable of. All musical brilliance aside- the group stays down to earth by chanting Salt N Pepa lyrics into a crazy voice modulator and upon peeking thru their website- there is a great Solider Boy reference. Ha.
Pick up their debut 7inch from mothfight.net , natrixnatrixrecords.com and record stores near you starting on the 31st! Also- stay tuned for an eventual video recap of the night thanks to the camera work of Super!Alright! Check out a great recap from Austinist here

a while back I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!

If you're still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you'll know which is right for you.
